I
am not a veterinarian and the following is what I use to treat my
dogs. Use the following at your on risk! I have been using the following methods
for over 10 years.
Heart worm prevention:
Ivomec 1% solution for cattle:
Ivermectin is found in Heartgard, Ivomec, and Eqvalan.
Ivermectin is used for the elimination of demodectic, sarcoptic, Otodectic, and
Cheyletiella
mites in dogs. Ivermectin has also been used to treat Capillaria aerophila and
the
prevention of heart worms. Ivermectin has shown to be very effective against
heart worm
infection when 1 year monthly prophylactic dosing is started as late as 4 months
after
infection.
I give my adult Chihuahuas 1 ml a month by mouth (not injected) during the
summer months and
a ½ ml during the winter months. Add water to the Ivomec (once in the syringe) to prevent the Ivomec
from
burning the dogs vocal cords.
You can buy Ivomec at www.revivalanimal.com
Worms:
For the removal and control of
mature infections of large strongles, pinworms, large
roundworms, and small strongyles in dogs and puppies we use Pyrantel Pamoate. We
give
1 cc per 10 pounds every 3 months. If worms are seen we give the same dosage for
three
consecutive days (per Vet).
We have also had great
success with Nemex 2. Dosing is approx 1/2 cc per puppy for 3 days.
(Chihuahuas)
Coccidia (Coccidiosis)
I use a prevention treatment on all my pups about every two to three weeks until
6 months
old. I give them Di-Methox 12.5% solution mixed with Dyne. Di-methox 12.5% is
the exact
same thing as Albon 12.5%, but is much cheaper. Dyne is a high calorie liquid
dietary
supplement that will help increase the pups energy much quicker. I mix 5 ounces
of Dyne to
4 ounces of Di-Methox 12.5%. This mixture produces the same thing you will get
from the
vet called Albon 5%, but will be getting it without a prescription and at a much
cheaper
price. For prevention I give 2.5cc or 1/2 teaspoon per 5 pounds (5 cc/1 teaspoon
per 10
pounds) by mouth once a day for 5 days. If a pup has the coccidia he must be
treated for
14 to 21 days by giving the same dosage as above.
Both can be found here

Vaccines:
We vaccinated our puppies with
Duramune 5-way at 8 weeks., 11 weeks, and again at 14 weeks. All
dogs will receive a buster shot once a year. 5-way protects against Distemper,
Adenovirus
Type 2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus.DO NOT give Chihuahua puppies Corona virus or
Lepto, puppies have DIED from severe reactions!
There are several
places you can buy shots. I buy them from
www.revivalanimal.com
HOT SPOTS OR SKIN IRRITATIONS
(WITH HAIR LOSS):
For Hot Spots or skin
irritations that cause dogs to loose hair we use Betadine. It absolutely
works wonders. You will not find anything in the store that works faster.
Usually after a
couple of days of treatment you will see improvement. Betadine is cheap (under
$15) and a
bottle will last you for a long time. We purchase the Betadine from
www.countrysupply.com
KENNEL COUGH:
For Kennel cough we use
Tetracycline 250 mg. We give 1 capsule per day for 5 days.
During the coughing time we also give them Robitussin Cough Syrup using the
children
dosage (advised by VET). We usually purchase the Tetracycline from
www.vetdepot.com or
www.revivalanimal.com
